Good point. I find that, generally, the words are the same but are pronounced a little differently. The English like to put the stress on the first syllable whereas y'all (or you guys) go for the second.
The only time we really LIKE Zzzz's is either when we are sleeping or playing the alphabet game on road trips. Hopefully it is not the driver enjoying the first when he/she should be concentrating on the second.
Being English, I thought I'd confuse this test if I took it. So I did. Turns out it thinks I'm a little of everything! Result:
ReplyDelete45% General American English
25% Yankee
20% Dixie
5% Midwestern
5% Upper Midwestern
Perhaps this shows that general American English is closer to the real thiing than we think.

ReplyDeleteHave you seen the spelling in your country change at all? color/colour humor/homour etc? We don't drop our H's but we do tend to drop the U's.
ReplyDeleteYes, and you love Z's and we hate 'em! But I'm bilingual so I spell whichever way the company prefers. ;)
