"Crazy Saudi road skaters" is the name of the post Anita has up on the Say No To Crack blogsite. She links to a YouTube Video that has to be one of the nuttiests stunts I've ever seen pulled.

You tell me. Is this a fake video using the wonders of computers or are these guys really hanging out of a speeding car and skating on sandals? - You can leave your comments on Anita's site. I'll be back there to join in the conversation throughout the weekend.

Mexico's Congress Brawls

- Shows U.S. Congress How It Should Be Done -

From ABC News

M

exican Lawmakers Brawl in Congressional Chamber Before Inauguration; Part of Cabinet Sworn In

Leftist lawmakers threw punches and chairs at their conservative colleagues and some tried to block the doors of the congressional chamber Friday just an hour before incoming President Felipe Calderon was to take the oath of office there.

Ruling party lawmakers, chanting "Mexico wants peace," seized the speaker's platform where Calderon was supposed to appear, while leftist opponents blocked most of the chamber's doors.

The brawl was shown on live television across Mexico.

This prying1 wonders if our Congress should follow suit and use pay-for-view to garner much needed funds to pay for social welfare programs?

~~~~~
Felipe Calderon was sworn into office in a midnight ceremony with outgoing President Vicente Fox, and at the same time swore in part of his Cabinet. A private ceremony was broadcast live showing Fox turning over the presidential sash to a military cadet when his term ended at midnight.
Calderon was quoted as saying, "I am not unaware of the complexity of the political times we are living through, nor of our differences, but I am convinced that we today we should put an end to our disagreements and from there, start a new stage whose only aim would be to place the interests of the nation above our differences."
Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who lost the presidential election to Calderon by a narrow margin, gathered thousands of supporters in the capital's main plaza, and thousands of riot police surrounded Congress to block them from moving in.
Lopez Obrador has set up a parallel government and declared himself "legitimate president" of Mexico. The Leftist Loser might some day wake up to reality and see that he is doing his country much harm through his actions. Then again perhaps he already knows this and that is why he is acting the fool.
Eating Dog Food Does Not Pay
Used to be, back in the good old days, if you heard about 'Dog Food' in the news it was because the Republicans were forcefeeding it to old folks. Type it into Google News today and the page that comes up does not at all mention 'old folks' or Republicans.
What does come up is the story of Tennie Pierce, a 19 year veteran of the L.A. Fire Department. Oh! Tennie happens to be a black man. I only mention that because it is germane to the story. Otherwise I could care less about the color of his skin.
~~~~~

Tennie, like others in the fire station he worked out of, enjoyed pulling and watching practical jokes. Until one was turned against him. Some of his co-workers fed him some spaghetti with dog food mixed into it. AND they laughed while he ate it.
Some stories concerning this say his nickname was 'Dog'.

Well Tennie claimed they did it because he was a black man. In effect he claimed his co-workers were/are racists and Tennie Pierce sued the city because of them.

The City Council approved a $2.7 million settlement. The Mayor, after learning more facts concerning the affair and seeing pictures of Tennie Pierce pulling pranks on others, vetoed the settlement. Yesterday the city council could not get the votes needed to override the veto.

~~~~~
Now I like a good practical joke just like the next man and prefer they be against the next man as opposed to being pulled on me but I wouldn't go running to sue over it. Especially if no real harm was done. Probably if I got a broken leg or arm I would change my mind about suing but otherwise I know I would laugh about it after a few years had passed... So the question becomes was Tennie harmed as a result of eating the dog food.
Buddy of mine, when he first heard the story, said he would often times lick the spoon after emptying a can of dog food into a bowl. Said some tastes better than others but most was pretty good. I replied, "If the stuff was going to kill people it would be killing the dogs." - - - - So we can say Tennie Pierce was not physically harmed by the dog food laden spaghetti.
Lets see what an expert in race relations says about it.
- From the Daily Breeze -
Geraldine Washington, president of the Los Angeles Chapter of the NAACP, said that the nature of the incident echoed a long history of tactics used to humiliate and subjugate black people.
"For a group of whites to intentionally place dog food in the food of an African-American and later taunt him about it reinforces the negative condescending attitudes of some, that African-Americans are less than human," she said.
What a crock of ....!
Was Geraldine Washington, president of the Los Angeles Chapter of the NAACP, expecting the NAACP to get a nice donation from Tennie if he had recieved the 2.7 million? That is the only reason I can think of for her making a ridiculous statement like that concerning this "PRACTICAL JOKE". - It was a joke Lady!!! - AND SHE SHOULD KNOW IT! It has been in the news. So why the psychobabble if not because of the money?
~~~~~

There is one good thing that has come out of all this so far. (It might not be over. Pierce's lawyer may still try to press it in court but they know they have lost in the court of public opinion) When people hear the word "RACIST" bandied about they will not automatically condemn those who are having fingers pointed at them.

A good look needs to be taken of those shouting the word. Often times they are using it for self centered reasons and not because there is any truth in the accusation.

We need to have banners made up with pictures of pet food cans and the words, "NO MORE FRIVOLOUS LAWSUITS" on them. I bet we could get the dog food industry to pay for them. Place them on the roofs of court houses all around the country. Wave them in the faces of lawyers as they enter the courthouse.

Let it become an ensign held up by people that are tired of frivolous, fraudulent lawsuits and tired of hearing the word "RACIST" being used as a means to steal money from deep pockets.

Boston Joins Carbon Dioxide Scam

Boston says they will be flooded by 2100 if the Feds don't cough up big bucks to fix global warming. They have no proof but they say the water on planet Earth

COULD

rise as much as 27 inches by the year 2100. (I always love qualifying words so I made sure you noticed it as I did.) - I checked and Boston's mean elevation is 19 feet. You do the math.

Are the docks in Boston only 27 inches above the high tide line? Evidently the Sierra Club wants us to think so.

I thought a lot of docks are built so that they raise and lower with the tide.

Oh well!

So here is what we must do:

Hold your breath folks! Quit breathing! When you exhale you are ruining the environment.

That air you exhale may soon be taxable. Several states are suing the Federal Government over Carbon Dioxide emissions and it is

going before the Supreme Court
of The Good Old U.S.A..

You know about Carbon Dioxide. Oh! Perhaps some readers don't know?

For those who have only recently graduated from public school it is the stuff we exhale. People inhale oxygen and exhale Carbon Dioxide. Plants take the Carbon Dioxide and change it back to oxygen. Pretty good system and it has been working for years. It seems the treehuggers should want to be nice to plants and give them more of the nutritious (to plants anyway) stuff.

Doesn't it figure?

More Carbon Dioxide and the easier time plants will have growing, breeding and enjoying playing whatever games plants play.

BUT NOOOOOOoooo! Environmentalists want money from the Federal Government so they can save the world from the GREENHOUSE EFFECT!

(Note to self. Write posting on how Christians should sue the Feds to speed up the Second Coming...)

Scammers say the Carbon Dioxide/oxygen system is breaking down and people with money are to blame. Just give the money to environmentalists and they will change weather patterns for all eternity. They will also stop volcanoes while they are at it. .

Of course after they fix the weather problems their offspring will then need to sue the government to keep Old Sol from going supernova and all non-environmentalist's children will then be footing the bill.

Lets all just put shackles around our necks and legs and become slaves to the environmentalists. AND their children after them. If not that, lets at least from now on sign over every one of our paychecks to them.

Either that or tell them to get lost!

Identifying Child Molesters and Pedophiles

Warriors For Innocence has the skinny on what to look for!

A MUST READ for parents, pastors, congregations, employers, employees, Christians, Hindoos, Muslums, Budhists, B'hais, Zoroastrians, athiests and anyone who knows anyone that has kids or doesn't have kids plus their friends, neighbors, co-workers etc...

What are the characteristics you need to know about child molestors and pedophiles? Sues has a great post on the subject.

I will say that you should not start looking at all people with a suspicious eye after reading this. Just those who fit the profile. You don't want to destroy any friendships or relationships where it would be unwarranted.

Pastors should look at the behaviour of those over kids ministries. Do they fit the profile? If so move them to another ministry. If they leave the church as a result warn the next pastor!!!

Be aware and help others to be aware. Send the link on Sues page to your email list. It may save someones son, daughter, neice or nephew from the pain and suffering caused by molestors.

NY Times Whines to Ruth Bader Ginsburg!

And then they have the audacity to report it in their paper as if they did the right thing.

Here is the deal.

Judith Miller and Philip Shenon are being investigated into who in the government illegally leaked information which both 'newspeople' used to inform two Islamic charities (read: terrorist money launderers) that their lovely offices were about to be raided.

Some lovely quotes from the lovely news gathering service The New York Times article concerning their lovely employees (Lovely Judith Miller of "Into the Cooler" fame is currently no longer working there):

The United States attorney in Chicago, Patrick J. Fitzgerald, sought the reporters' records directly from their phone companies, and The Times filed suit to stop him.

In August, a divided three-judge panel of the federal appeals court in Manhattan ruled in favor of Mr. Fitzgerald, saying the reporters were not entitled to shield their sources. The needs of law enforcement, the majority said, outweighed any protections the reporters might have in the First Amendment or other areas of law.

The paper's filing yesterday was a limited one, seeking an order from Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg staying the appeals court decision until the Supreme Court has an opportunity to decide whether to hear the case. The deadline for seeking review of the appeals court's decision is in January, but The Times said it would move faster.

...

The press has been on a losing streak of late in the federal courts, with several decisions refusing to recognize protection for confidential sources. The Supreme Court has not weighed in on the question since 1972.

Floyd Abrams, a lawyer for The Times, said the case now before the court could give it an opportunity to clarify the law.

"If the government is permitted to proceed to scrutinize the telephone records of The New York Times and its journalists," Mr. Abrams said, "it will be in a position to identify literally scores of confidential sources, thus imperiling both the ability of the press to gather the news and of the public to learn it."

prying1 sez:
Let's PRAY that the loosing streak continues!

Personally I'd rather the government had the ability to capture terrorists than to allow the press to have the ability to imperil the lives of federal law-enforcement personnel and citizens that just happen to be passing by, if and when a terrorist funding organization decides they don't want their offices searched.

Would Judith Miller and Philip Shenon be guilty of murder had the people in charge of searching these terrorist funding offices been killed?

Once again the NY Times is on the side of evil people. This time the evil people were working for them...

Just lovely!

~~~~~
Hat tip to AubreyJ - and a thanks to AubreyJ too for his link to Michelle Malkin concerning this matter.
~~~~~
Update: It might be suggested that Judith Miller and Philip Shenon are not evil but just stupid. Either way they should out the person in our government that illegally gave them the information.

Regarding Minimum Wage

Political Pistachio has a post entitled - The dangers of raising the minimum wage - Good read. Douglas V. Gibbs sums up his posting in this line: "Just more proof of the idiocy of the left, if you ask me."

Well Douglas. Those with clear thinking on the matter agree with you 100%. Raising the minimum wage should not be the first order of business and is more proof that the Democrats are not serious about real problems facing this country.

I had to comment on his post then thought I'd bring my comment here and share my feelings on the subject.

~~~~~~~
Raise minimum wages and it gives the unions the right to demand more. I understand that many unions have their wage structures tied in with the minimum wage. Hmmm. And the Dems love the unions...
Every time there is a raise in the minimum wages many people getting paid more than minimum wage find they're closer to the bottom and do not get increases themselves...
For those that do get increases commensurate with the increase:
Lets see. McD's pays more to it's workers. Raises the cost of their burgers.
Hardware store pays more to it's workers. Raises the cost of their hardware.
Grocery Store pays more to it's workers. Raises the cost of their groceries.
Beauty salon pays more to it's workers. Raises the cost of their beauticians.
Bar & Grill pays more to it's workers. Raises the cost of their food and drink.
Gas station pays more to it's workers. Raises the cost of their gas and goods.
Worker who get his wages raised pays more for the burger, etc. so his raise counts for nothing.
BUT To show Republicans REALLY DO CARE we should demand they offer more than the Democrats offer. What ever Polosi suggests why stop there? Lets have Republicans in Congress demand every employer pays every employee a million dollars a week so everyone can be rich. Just like Pelosi and her friends...
A Prayer Request For a Little Bell
Rick Bell of The Bamboo Bell sent the following email out concerning his wife and their baby that is due in April of 2007. As the Good Lord reminds you (may He do so daily) please pray for the baby's good health.
Dear All,
Please be praying for us - we were doing a routine ultrasound at the specialist yesterday (at the specialist because of the Rh factor issues) and the doctor found what looks like a hole in our baby's heart between the two lower chambers. This could be fixed at some point after she is born. There could be other complications associated with it or there could be none. Jennifer had an amniocentesis test and we will hear of results in the next few weeks. We will have to settle in Cincinnati for Children's hospital there, and going back to China will be delayed perhaps another year. Please pray that the baby's heart might be healed even now, and that there would be no other complications involved.
Rick and Jennifer Bell
As sort of noted in the email Rick and Jennifer have a heart for China and the people there. While you are at it pray for Divine guidance for them. That is something we all could use.
~~~~~

UPDATE - Another email from Rick says:

We just got initial test results back today on possible chromosome
abnormalities. The initial results showed NORMAL, so we are thankful and
praising the Lord! We are still waiting for further results on other
chromosomes. Today's results were the big ones. The others are also
important so please keep praying, but we are so thankful today. Will
keep you posted. Still praying that that little heart is healed in the
womb...

Thanks for praying with us,
Rick

~~~~~~~~
Update 26 Dec 06:
Hi everyone, hope your Christmas was good.
Here is, I hope, a fairly clear summary of the situation with our little baby, due in April:
We got the test results back. The good news is there are no chromosome problems. But the baby's blood is rh positive and Jennifer has developed antibodies against that- which means she will have to be monitored closely. This could go by without any problem, or it could mean the need for blood transfusions in the womb. Jennifer will need to see a specialist on a weekly basis.
The hole in the heart is still there. It is a large hole, one the doctor says cannot heal on its own except by miracle. But it can be fixed- which means surgery at some point from birth to perhaps a year old- must be determined later. So we have to delay going back to China until all is well.
Logistically, we need to be in Cincinnati (Children's Hospital and family and church). We plan to be there in about two weeks. We need a home to rent and I will need to find work. We could be back in China within a year of the baby's birth. Right now, we trust that this is all of God. We know many of you have been faithful and praying, and we can only conclude that God wants us in Cincinnati at this time.
CHINA: For now we are just on hold. But things have really taken off there in our old hometown. We are hearing great reports of new believers getting baptized and others showing interest. God is bringing forth the harvest! Thanks for your prayers!
Rick and Jennifer Bell
www.bamboobell.squarespace.com
~~~~~~~~

Update: 20 Jan 07

Hi everyone- we do appreciate your prayers...

Concerning Baby Bell (due in April), we went to the hospital and got a fetal ekocardiogram and got some less than encouraging news. It is a very serious problem with the heart. It is a good thing the hole did not close up, because it is needed to allow for a flow- she would have died already if that hole had closed up. Also one ventricle is very small and in the wrong place. There are other complications that are too hard to explain.

Bottom line is that this will require some surgeries. Best case is that only two would be needed- one about 4 months after the baby is born and then when she is three. She may also need to have one right after birth- that can only be known when she is born. We pray that she won't need one immediately. Her heart will not be normal- but it may be functional just the same.

The doctor said we could feasibly and safely go back to China after the surgery at about 4 months of age. We could get periodic checkups in Bangkok- and eventually come to the States when she is three years old for the next surgery. Hopefully that would be it.

Hope you're doing well. We know the Lord will prove faithful through all this.
Rick and Jennifer Bell

Happy Thankgiving!

Last year about this time I posted a story - Did I Miss Something? - about a store setting up Christmas displays right after Halloween. The Grinch had stolen Thankgiving was my complaint.

This year I do see a bit more Thanksgiving displays so I guess some of the 'suits' in Corporate America took my posting to heart.

The first Thanksgiving was held in a time far different from ours. There were no frozen turkeys or catered meals. The Pilgrims had landed at Plymouth Rock, far from their intended destination, and had to carve out a livelyhood in a wilderness that was unfriendly to humans. As William Bradford wrote about the landing, "they had now no friends to welcome them, nor inns to entertain or refresh their weather-beaten bodies, no houses or much less towns to repair to, to seek for succor."

They did have God on their side and He provided.

Bradford wrote,

The First Thanksgiving Proclamation

June 20, 1676

"The Holy God having by a long and Continual Series of his Afflictive dispensations in and by the present Warr with the Heathen Natives of this land, written and brought to pass bitter things against his own Covenant people in this wilderness, yet so that we evidently discern that in the midst of his judgements he hath remembered mercy, having remembered his Footstool in the day of his sore displeasure against us for our sins, with many singular Intimations of his Fatherly Compassion, and regard; reserving many of our Towns from Desolation Threatened, and attempted by the Enemy, and giving us especially of late with many of our Confederates many signal Advantages against them, without such Disadvantage to ourselves as formerly we have been sensible of, if it be the Lord's mercy that we are not consumed, It certainly bespeaks our positive Thankfulness, when our Enemies are in any measure disappointed or destroyed; and fearing the Lord should take notice under so many Intimations of his returning mercy, we should be found an Insensible people, as not standing before Him with Thanksgiving, as well as lading him with our Complaints in the time of pressing Afflictions:

The Council has thought meet to appoint and set apart the 29th day of this instant June, as a day of Solemn Thanksgiving and praise to God for such his Goodness and Favour, many Particulars of which mercy might be Instanced, but we doubt not those who are sensible of God's Afflictions, have been as diligent to espy him returning to us; and that the Lord may behold us as a People offering Praise and thereby glorifying Him; the Council doth commend it to the Respective Ministers, Elders and people of this Jurisdiction; Solemnly and seriously to keep the same Beseeching that being perswaded by the mercies of God we may all, even this whole people offer up our bodies and soulds as a living and acceptable Service unto God by Jesus Christ."

prying1 sez: Here is a handy recipe: Combine liberal amounts of prayer and thankgiving and you will have an extremely joyous and peace filled holiday.

Womens Groups Stand Where Regarding Islamofacism?

Mighty quiet over there on their website concerning the attrocities perpetrated against women in Islamic counties.

I was reading a post on
With Sticks and Stones
concerning Pakistan changing it's rape laws to give a little more human rights to women. ariadneK, Ph.D. is just a little ticked at these 'holy men' in Islam that protested because they can't rape women to teach 'em a lesson for having a brother that has an affair with a woman above his station in life...

From Yahoo News (Link subject to disappearing. Trust me and ariadneK, Ph.D. this is what it said - She has posted more of it than I): International and local calls for change intensified after the 2002 gang-rape of a woman, Mukhtar Mai, who was assaulted after a tribal council in her eastern Punjab village ordered the rape as punishment for her 13-year-old brother's alleged affair with a woman of a higher caste.

So the law gets changed a touch to protect women and the Islamopoohbutts (My pastor reads my blog on occasion so I can't use the words I really want to...) get upset.

Pro-Islamic lawmakers stormed out of the National Assembly Wednesday in protest of the new legislation, known as the Protection of Women Bill.

"We reject it," Maulana Fazlur Rahman, a top Islamist opposition leader, told reporters after the vote, which he described as a "dark day" in Pakistan's parliamentary history.

Rahman and other Islamists vowed to devise a strategy to block Senate passage of the bill. Islamic political groups have previously staged mass rallies to denounce moves by the military-led government deemed contrary to Islam.

.....

The amendments include dropping the death penalty and flogging for people convicted of having consensual sex outside marriage and giving judges discretion to try rape cases in a criminal rather than Islamic court. Strict Islamic law dictates that a woman claiming rape must produce four witnesses, making a trial almost impossible.

Discussion on the bill broke down in September after the government failed to win support from opposition Islamic groups, particularly for abolishing the need for four witnesses to a rape.

In a compromise, the government proposed the clause allowing a judge to try cases in either a criminal court or in an Islamic court. The new bill also removed the right of police to detain people suspected of having sex outside of marriage, instead requiring a formal accusation in court.

This led me to wondering about the U.S.Womens lib outfits and their stand against women being raped for their brother's sins all in the name of Islam and their god allah.

Well! Let's see. Try the NOW nags first. Hmmm - Link here for Global Feminism... Hmmm Here is an article -
What Now for the Women of Afghanistan and Iraq?
- dated 9/04??? - That's over two years ago. Oh well, Lets see what it says. Hmmm Bush is at fault for women being mistreated in both countries. Things were better for women under Saddam Hussein.

Tell that to the little girls his sons were raping...

Back up and try this link for violence against women articles. Looks like articles on the U.S. and Mexico. Nothing on Islam.

Try Googling - Womans Issues -. Let's see - Women's Issues Demoted to Political Untouchables - pro ripping babies out of mother's wombs site...

Google - Womans Issues Islam - Muslum Womans League - Hmmm. Quote - The Muslim Women's League regrets Pope Benedict's recent comments regarding Islam at a time when the world needs religious leaders to act with enlightenment and knowledge to bring peace, justice and harmony to a world on the verge of chaos, violence and ignorance. - end quote - Hey idiot!!! It is YOUR so called religion that is causing all the chaos, violence and ignorance. - Probably written by a man hiding behind a woman's skirts...

All the rest of these hits are Muslum web pages saying how wonderful their religion is.

Oh well. Never mind. I guess all is well and we can go back to sleep now...

The National Organization for Women is right to ignore it...

Elton John is in the news

Elton John has hit the news recently with a comment that religion should be banned. - Elton John and the Scissor Sisters' Jake Shears discuss what it means to be a gay star, just what constitutes a gay sense of humour - and why everyone is welcome in their world. -
says a headline in the Guardian Unlimited
-

Prior to the banning religion statement Elton John had said:

I think religion has always tried to turn hatred towards gay people. Religion promotes the hatred and spite against gays. But there are so many Christian people I know who are gay and love their religion ...

Italics = prying1 who wonders at the contradiction in this statement???

Elton John's words about banning religion in context:
... We should all be together. I've got this really naive idea of what life should be like - it's an idealistic idea but it's completely integrated. We can't keep thinking of gay people as being ostracised; we can't keep thinking of Muslim people as being [ostracised] because of the fundamentalism that occurs in Islam. Muslim people have to do something about speaking up about it. - This I agree with - We can't judge a book by its cover.

From my point of view I would ban religion completely, even though there are some wonderful things about it. I love the idea of the teachings of Jesus Christ and the beautiful stories about it, which I loved in Sunday school and I collected all the little stickers and put them in my book. But the reality is that organised religion doesn't seem to work. It turns people into hateful lemmings and it's not really compassionate.

The world is near escalating to World War Three and where are the leaders of each religion? Why aren't they having a conclave; why aren't they coming together? I said this after 9/11 and people thought I was nuts: instead of more violence why isn't there a [meeting of religious leaders]. It's all got to be dialogue - that's the only way. Get everybody from each religion together and say 'Listen, this can't go on. Why do we have all this hatred?'

~~~~~
His opening lines about being naive are proven in his last paragraph about the leaders of each religion having a conclave. "It's all got to be dialogue... "
There are no LEADERS of each religion except the Catholic Church and maybe the Dali Lama. In the Muslum religion there is a myriad of local Imams and such but which of them are considered THE LEADERS of the Muslum religion? All of them by their local congregations.
Christianity has so many branches and disagreements on such little issues that it would be impossible to gather them together and decide who is in and who is out. Many of those that the Main Stream Media calls "Christian Leaders" are rejected as such by the majority of Christians... Tony Campolo and Hillary Clinton come to mind...
Hindoo and Buddhist religions are pretty much the same way by what I gather.
Then, if and when, they get to the meeting who is going to lead it?
Elton?
I think not.
The meeting would be filled with a bunch of people pointing fingers and claiming the others are wrong. Plus you have the problem of definitions of words. For example the Muslums and Mormans and Jehovah's Witnesses and Hindoos and Buddhists and Catholics and Protestants all have a different definition of the word 'salvation' and even the need for it...
No Elton. A Holy Conclave would not work. You are as you said, "naive"...
As far as the religion is filled with hate towards gays aspect of your statements, Christianity as I know it simply disagrees with the gay lifestyle. Because a person (religious or not) says, "I do not think that the word 'Marraige' should be redefined to denote a relationship between two men or two women", or "I do not think the gay lifestyle is a viable one", they are tagged as hate filled.
Often times by those that are filled with hate towards religion...
~~~~~~
Think about it. To ban religion would really cause troubles in this world.
~~~~~~
I think it would be easier to ban toupees than it would be to ban religion.
"Adult" Stem Cells Once Again Show Promise
An Article at CBC NEWS (WWW.CBC.CA) - Stem cell injections fight muscular dystrophy in dogs - Says:
In promising new research, stem cells worked remarkably well at easing symptoms of muscular dystrophy in dogs, an experiment that experts call a significant step toward treating people.
.....
Sharon Hesterlee, vice-president of translational research at the Muscular Dystrophy Association, called the result one of the most exciting she's seen in her eight years with the organization. Her group helped pay for the work.
She stressed that it's not yet clear whether such a treatment would work in people, but said she had "cautious optimism" about it.
Two dogs that were severely disabled by the disease were able to walk faster and even jump after the treatments.
The study was published online Wednesday by the journal Nature. It used stem cells taken from the affected dogs or other dogs, rather than from embryos. For human use, the idea of using such "adult" stem cells from humans would avoid the controversial method of destroying human embryos to obtain stem cells.
The last line I thought rather telling. There has been good results from "Adult" stem cell research. That is where the corporate money has been going. In the meantime we have liberals shouting for state and federal funding of "Embryonic" stem cell research which has shown no promise or results by most reports... Often times the key words "Adult" and "Embryonic" are left off to further muddle the controversy...
With TAXPAYER dollars going into either type of stemcell research we will have more and more stories like this from LifeNews.com:
Hwang Woo-Suk: I Can't Prove How Stem Cell Research Funds Used - Hwang Woo-suk has been charged with embezzling public and private research dollars, told the court he could not prove how all of the money was spent.
.....
Hwang told the court in July that he spent more than $1 million in corporate donations on "peripheral activities related to research."
.....
Prosecutors have said that Hwang misspent $2.9 million in state funds and private donations, some of which went into a personal bank account. Other money is alleged to have gone to paying reporters for favorable coverage and expensive trips and gifts for other scientists.
prying1 sez: There must be oversight when huge amounts of monies are being spent or there will be mismanagement and fraud. Throwing massive amounts of federal funds into the mix will only be increasing the temptations for human nature to kick in.
Some Taxpayer dollars Should be allocated for "adult" stem cell researches but there needs to be accountability and results that goes along with it. "Embryonic" needs to be researched in private hands with private funding with or without results...
The Upcoming Presidential Election
Can't we have a break? It is like maggots crawling from beneath a lump of road kill all these politicians setting up 'EXPLORATORY COMMITTEES" for their "PRESIDENTIAL RUN"...
All it really means is GIMMEE Money!!!
Seems like politicians have nothing better to do than to run for office. Son't they have jobs to do?
There are not too many congressmen, senators or governors (or even mayors for that matter) that that would demur at having PRESIDENT on their tombstones instead of their current appellation. Just seems to me that they ought to take a break for a few weeks or months in between elections.
How does this sound for a new law:
Any politician that does not give his adoring public a 6 week campaigning break after each election will be strung up by his thumbs and pelted with paint filled balloons.
Or should it be 6 months?
Lieberman Stands Strong On His Principles
From Boston.com - Senator Joseph I. Lieberman of Connecticut said yesterday that he will caucus with Senate Democrats in the new Congress, but he would not rule out switching to the Republican caucus if he starts to feel uncomfortable among Democrats.
"I'm going to caucus with the Democrats both because it's good for my constituents in Connecticut, because I retained my seniority, I become a committee chair, but also I want to continue to work to bring the party back to its historic traditions of strength on national security, foreign policy, and innovation and progress in domestic policy," Lieberman said.
.....
He was asked about the possibility that he might switch caucuses if he became uncomfortable as Democrats sought to enforce party discipline, particularly if the GOP offered to keep him as a committee chairman and respect his seniority.
"I'm not ruling it out, but I hope I don't get to that point. And, and I must say, and with all respect to the Republicans who supported me in Connecticut, nobody ever said, 'We're doing this because we, we want you to switch over,' " he said.
"I believe that the American people are considering both major political parties to be in a kind of probation, because they're understandably angry that Washington is dominated too much by partisan political games, and not enough by problem-solving and patriotism, which means put the country and your state first," Lieberman said.
~~~~~
prying1 sez: Lets pray the Dems, led by Pelosi, Michael Moore, Daily KOS, etc., tick the good Senator off enough to switch parties. It would be rather fitting and quite a turn of events. Similarly the shoe was on the other foot in 2001 when Jeffords (VT) switched from R to D changing an evenly divided Senate to a Democrat majority. This would make it 50-50...

I don't think Lieberman is the kind of person to set his principles aside just to appease foaming at the mouth lefties.
